Clean and Simple: Tone on Tone Dimensional

I've got a card for Day 3 of the Clean & Simple Card Making class.  Today's lesson was on making tone on tone dimensional cards.  I used a technique we were shown last year, using die cuts with chipboard.

Since we are all friends and classmates, I'll tell you that this is not my favorite card.  Perhaps other die cuts would have worked better, but I didn't have time to start over.  My top layer is a very pretty butterfly made with a MS punch.  I almost broke my hand trying to cut PTI card stock in that punch for the three butterflies, and just couldn't make any more, so I used one of my PTI butterfly dies for the bottom layers.  Two of the butterflies are on three layers of coasters.  The third is just adhered in the middle and folded up.  I think I like that one the best.

Supplies Used (PTI):
Stamps:  Paper Smooches Sentiment Sampler
Paper:  Harvest Gold
Other:  MS butterfly punch, Butterfly die, Coasters
Thanks for Visiting

  3. I can't believe you tried to cut through 3 layers of pti cardstock! Lol. I'm sorry you don't love your card - I hate it when that happens after so much work.... But it's such a cheery card with such a great design.

  5. I love the one with folded up wings too, very pretty. I had to laugh when you said you almost broke your hand (and possibly the punch) trying to get through PTI c/s. There are some punches I don't even try anymore.

  6. I like the butterflies! I know what you mean about breaking your hand using MS punches and PTI cardstock. It just can not be done! I love the tone on tone challenge and I love the font on the sentiment.

  7. Joyce I really like your tone on tone. Honestly whenever I use my MS punches I am sure I am going to snap them, especially with PTI cardstock. LOL

  8. I think this is gorgeous...
but I have to say I do like the butterfly that has the wings "in motion" best!
    But a fabulous job...
and I think we all have problems with MS punches and PTI CS!!

  10. I love butterflies and this are gorgeous! I do agree about the one glued just in the middle--it is my favorite too! I think everyone fights with MS punches. She has so many fantastic ones but cutting is a challenge. I usually put mine on the floor so I can use more force. I have given up trying to punch them on a table!
