Four of a Kind #9

It's my favorite time of the month again--Four of a Kind posting time.  I think most of my readers know what is about to happen, but if you are new, please click here to get the scoop.  This month, Cathy is our hostess, and she sent us a kit chock full of PTI goodness, featuring Trendy Trees, and an assortment of simply luscious patterned papers.

I made four cards, and, as usual, have so many leftovers, I will be able to CASE all the gorgeous creations made by my partners in crime.  Thank you, Cathy, for sending such a wonderful kit.

Cathy has been producing the most beautiful window cards with every kit she has gotten lately.  So, Cathy--this card is pre-inspired by you.  This card assembled itself--all I had to add was the window.

Do not be fooled by this last card into thinking that I have somehow learned to sew.  Did you know that there is a little zig zag stamp in Button Boutique?  Well, I do.  This card uses some of the concepts in last week's Make it Monday, to highlight some of the gorgeous pattern papers Cathy sent.

What's Up?

I have two cards today for this week's CAS-ual Friday's CFC52:  Feathered Friends challenge and this week's Retro Sketches #11.   I have lots of 'feathered friends' stamps, so my big question was bird or owl--or both!

Get Well

Good morning and Happy Mother's Day to everyone.  I have already gotten some crafty time today, and hope to get some more later.  

A big Thank You to the gals at the new Dynamic Duos challenge blog for selecting this card as one of their Dynamic Darlings during their first challenge week.  I even got that cool new badge you see on the top right of my blog.

Of course, I had to play again in their second color challenge:  So Saffron and Pool Party.  I used Harvest Gold and Aqua Mist, and came up with two cards.  I used a Hero Arts set that had two large flowers, but couldn't decide which flower to use and how to alternate the colors.

 

I decided to make one of each.  I think I prefer the one on the top.  What do you think?

Birthday Cards

I fell in love with this simple card design by Stephanie at Stamping & Sharing.  I'm sure most of you are already familiar with this sweet gal's blog.  If not, I invite you to grab a cup of tea and a scone, and head on over for an incredible dose of eye candy.    

I had the idea to CASE this design and beef up my stock of birthday cards in the process.

If you know Stephanie, you know that she often makes multiples--one in every color.  Of course, I had to do the same thing, right?  I pulled out all my baker's twine, and made as many cards as I had matching paper/ink/twine. 

Orange Zest and Simply Chartreuse

I changed up the images, choosing a variety of tags from 2011 and 2012 Birthday Tags.

Blueberry Sky and Pure Poppy

I used sentiments from those tag sets, and Paper Smooches Sentiment Sampler.

Summer Sunrise and Winter Wisteria

A Little Birdie Told Me

Today, I'm playing along with a fun new challenge I just discovered, called dynamic duos.  Their challenge is to only use the two specified colors, plus any neutrals, on your card.  I loved their first two colors, and thought I'd give it a try, using Aqua Mist and Simply Chartreuse.  I am also entering this card into this week's CAS-ual Friday's CFC51 Happy Birthday celebration challenge.

I used my brand new Tweet Talk set and cased this birthday card that my friend Kim sent me.  I can tell this Tweet Talk is a set I will be using a lot.  All the images are so cute. I also used the zipper die to put a hidden message under the zipper pull.  Here is what it looked like before I assembled it:

Make it Monday: It's Your Day

This week's Make it Monday #65 is a really great tutorial by Dawn about combining and mixing patterned papers.  As I love to buy and collect patterned paper, I especially appreciated this lesson on how to use it all.

I have a box with all my PTI patterned paper scraps, that I plan to organize one day.  For this card, I just pulled out papers and started arranging them until I felt I had a mix that looked right and adhered to some of the principles Dawn mentioned about scale and busyness.   I also wanted to use my new Framed Out set.  I ended up with a card that I think will work well as either a Father's Day card or a masculine birthday card, depending on what I stamp on the inside.

It was really fun working with all these patterns.  If time allows, I will try this technique again, next time aiming for a different look.

Thank You for a Wonderful Birthday

Yesterday was my birthday, and I had the most wonderful surprise--a birthday blog hop in my honor, organized by my dear friend, Kim of Cupcakes, Cards and Kim.  I made a card to post today, to thank all my wonderful friends who participated in my birthday blog hop.

Birthday Cards

I have two birthday cards this morning, and I am entering them both into this weeks CAS-ual Friday's CFC51 Happy Birthday challenge.  A big congratulations to CAS-ual Fridays for turning 1 this week.  I hope someone will put you in a high chair with a great big cake on your tray (ha ha).  I have certainly enjoyed these challenges over the past year--they are some of my favorites, and I am amazed every week at the variety and creativity of the challenges.

My first card was inspired by this card by Nicole Heady and this week's color story at ColourQ CQC#135. I interpreted these colors as Dark Chocolate, Pure Poppy, Harvest Gold and Aqua Mist.  I made my first card ever with PTI's Wise Owl stamp set, and I have to say that this guy is just so fun to put together.  A huge thank you to my friend Rose from Rose Stamps who sent me her Wise Owl and Wise Owl Bellies set.  She saw that I was looking for these sets, and sent me hers, as a thank you for the times I have been her shipping buddy.  Rose, I promise to give these owls lots and lots of love.  Speaking of owl love, this card was originally intended for my nephew.  When my daughter saw it, she nabbed it for her friend's birthday party this weekend, and told me to make something else for her cousin.

I was in need of another birthday card for my nephew, after this Owl card was swiped.  I turned to this gorgeous combination of colors from this week's Make it Monday MIM #64:  Using Color Inspiration.

I loved the idea of making a banner with those little pieces from Tag Sale #6 that I saw here on Danielle Flander's blog.

Happy Anniversary

I have a super quick card to share today for this week's Less is More challenge #65, which was a sketch challenge.  Here is the sketch.

I still had my Winter Wisteria supplies and Pretty Peonies stamps out on my desk, and made this very simple card to show off this beautiful butterfly. 

We were instructed to use lots of white space in our cards this week.  If you substitute 'purple space' for 'white space', then I am in compliance with the challenge, right?
