Four Cards for Thursday

Today I have a card that uses the colors from this week's ColourQ #268 and the sketch from RetroSketches #141.    When I first saw the colors and some of the samples, I was thinking feminine, but after I put my card together, I realized that my design worked better as a masculine card--so I picked a different sentiment that wasn't so ornate.  I'm also entering at Seize the Birthday, without toppings.

After cutting my 3 different colors of card stock with the SSS Diamond Parade die, I stamped them all with the background texture stamp from the same set as my sentiment--PTI's 1960's Stamp A Faire set.

Happy 2nd birthday to Addicted to CAS.  I made a card with my newest owl stamp, this little cutie from Unity called Woo Hoo Owl.  He is perfect for my owl-loving daughter because he has long skinny legs and wears glasses, just like her.  Can you see the Glossy Accents I used to make lenses on the glasses?  I am also entering at Addicted to Stamps #122 for their Make your Mark challenge, as I used Copic markers on my owl.  My daughter is going to Florida tomorrow for a big lacrosse tournament, and I'll be tucking this into her suitcase.

I was inspired by Kristie's card to finally use my No Strings Attached stamp set, and made another card for The Card Concept 23 Krafty Christmas.  I will call my card Clean and Layered.

My last card is for this week's Muse Challenge #94, Paper Players #222 Clean and Simple Thank You, and Simon Says Wednesday challenge thanks or Thanksgiving.  I wanted to follow the basic sketch of the gorgeous inspiration card, and use the technique of overlapping stamped images and inlaid die cutting for the sentiment.  When I stacked up my sentiment and inlaid it back into my stamped panel, topped with the layer cut from the stamped panel, it was really too difficult to read the die cut word, thanks.  So, I left it as a stacked inlay, but did not put the last layer on, which was the layer cut out of the stamped panel.  I added some burlap texture to the card front.

PTI May 2014 Blog Hop

I really love the Aqua Mist and Melon Berry color combo that is the theme of this month's PTI blog hop.  I was inspired to make 6 cards, and I'm sure I could have made more if my May order had arrived in time and also if there were more hours in the day.

I will start with the card that I think might be my favorite--it combines roses from The Sweet Life with Background Basics Medallions and a sentiment from Ruby Rose.

All those popsicle cards shown during the last count down inspired me to take out my ice cream cones, and I was inspired by one of Maile's cards for this card using Sweet as Can Be.

I used an inlaid die cut technique on this card, overlapping Aqua Mist and Melon Berry beautiful bloom die cut flowers.

My next two cards are inspired by Susan over at Simplicity--I don't remember the exact post, but she talked about making 'missing you' cards where the design included something missing.  I can't remember all the details, but they inspired me to make the following pair of cards.  I used a butterfly die from Simon Says Stamp that I can't seem to get enough of and a sentiment from Botanical Silhouettes.

I made a pair, because  I needed to die cut one set of butterflies in each color, but only used half of them, so I made another card to use the other half.  These cards are going to Operation Write Home, as they are apparently always in great need of 'miss you' type cards.

My last card might be my 2nd favorite of the bunch--or maybe it is my first favorite--anyway--I used Betsy's technique from this week's Make it Monday #165:  Artsy Watercolor Backgrounds. 

I dabbed some circular sponges into the ink and then stamped them randomly over a small angled piece of white card stock.  Then, I went over them with a water brush and dried it with my heat gun.  I love the soft and dreamy look that results.  The sentiment is from Keep it Simple Birthday.  I love the medium sized birthday sentiments in this set.

Well, that's it for me today.  I know I am going to see so many amazing cards today--if I had gotten my order in time, I would have used those new butterflies, and I expect to see that lots of people did.

CAS-ual Fridays and then some...

The San Diego Rock and Roll Marathon is this Sunday, and a good friend of mine is running in it.   She has been training with Team in Training, and raising money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.  I made this card for her to celebrate her race.  I am entering this card into this week's CAS-ual Friday's CFC55 challenge to 'Put a Bling On It'.

Rock On--You Did It

The strip near the bottom is MS Turquoise glitter, and there is a little gem on the Hawaiian Shores guitar.  I like how you can still kind of see the checked background through the glitter.  Purple and Turquoise are the official colors of Team in Training.  I also had made her a set of Purple and Turquoise thank you cards that she could use to send to her donors, and I will post that later, if I can find my pictures.

Here is the first card I made to send to her to celebrate her finish.  When I saw the PTI group posts this morning using Boy Basics, it reminded me about the guitar in Rock On.  So, I will save this card for something else.

PTI May 2012 Blog Hop

It's time for the May Papertrey Blog Hop.  This month, I decided to do something a little different with our beautiful inspiration photo.  Instead of trying to replicate the photo, which I usually try to do, I just pulled out some elements of the photo that spoke to me, and then made a card with them.  What I took away from this photo was--the color scheme (black, white, simply chartruese), geometric patterns, and a something round and green.

Today, I am traveling to New York to attend my nephew's Bar Mitzvah.  So, I promise to come and visit your blog when I get home.  I'm eager to see what you have created, too.
