Retro Sketches #60, Muse #14, CAS-ual Fridays #99, Simon Says Stamp

Happy Friday.  It is almost the weekend and I am looking forward to lots of warm sunshine.  I have two cards today.  The first one is for this week's Retro Sketches RS#60, where I get to CASE Deanna's beautiful card.  Yay--I love CASE-ing Deanna.  I am also submitting this card to CAS-ual Fridays CFC99:  Birthday Bash, and Simon Says Stamp Anything Goes.  This is such a great sketch, and this card is one of my favorites of the year, so far.

My next card is for this week's Muse Challenge #14, where we have this beautiful inspirational card from Virginia Lu.  I was inspired by her colorful floral background and masked circle for her sentiment.  I used PTI Beautiful Blooms II in Summer Sunrise, Hibiscus Burst and Hawaiian Shores to stamp a colorful floral background, and used a sentiment from Avery Elle Framed Fonts inside my masked circle.  I impressed the panel with the Picnic Plaid Impression Plate, and used Ranger white enamel dots and bling for the flower centers.

I am also submitting this card to CAS-ual Fridays CFC99:  Birthday Bash.

My Crafty Weekend

This is my second post today.  Please scroll down or click here for my Waltzingmouse Blog Party card.

The house was pretty quiet this weekend, with my noisiest daughter gone on a school trip.  I had lots of time to play with my new (and old) stamps, and catch up on some of my favorite challenges.

First up is a card for this week's CAS(E) this Sketch CTS#19, using this week's Color Throwdown CTD233 colors.  I ordered the new Folk Art Medallion from Waltzingmouse, and couldn't wait to get inky with it.

I knew I wanted to do a striped pattern with Watercolor Wonder for this week's Dynamic Duos DD#44, but couldn't choose between two ideas of what to do next.  I made them both, but I guess I must be dieting, because neither one uses the dessert option of ribbon.

My next two cards use the colors for this week's Play Date Cafe PDCC#173.  I discovered a pretty good coral ink in my stash--Versacolor Old Rose, and have been using that ever since I returned my PTI Melon Berry because it was too brown.

This first card is also for this week's challenge at A Blog Named Hero:  Free Style.

I broke out my PTI Guidelines II set, and discovered how fun and easy it is to stamp a beautiful geometric pattern.  Thanks, Kate, for all the inspiration--you are the reason I finally caved and bought this set.  I also finally learned how to use my Bow Easy by watching this video, and I think the bow on this card is my best ever.

I am squeaking in just in time with my next card for this week's Paper Smooches Designer Drafts Challenge.

Last for today is a card for this week's Retro Sketches RS#55.  This week's sketch is based on a card by Laurie, and I love the fact that I could highlight and use some of my huge stash of patterned paper.

Speaking of patterned paper, I am very excited about the Pattern Play class I am taking starting tomorrow.  I hope to see some familiar names and faces as I learn how to better use all that patterned paper I love to buy.

December Avery Elle Challenge

I am playing in the first Avery Elle challenge--and I may even be the very first player.  How exciting.  The challenge is to create a project that 'sums up your personal paper crafting style'.  Wow, that is a tall order.  I'm not sure that I achieved all that, but here is what I did.  I incorporated some of the things that seem to characterize most of my cards:

  • CAS
  • Lots of White Space
  • Bold, Bright, or Dark Colors  (hardly ever pastels)
  • Texture
  • Dimension
I used my two favorite (and only) Avery Elle stamp sets for this card.

I think it looks like me.  What do you think?

It is no fun to party alone.  Please join me in this challenge....

Supplies Used:
Stamps:  Avery Elle To the Point, Framed Fonts
Paper:  PTI White
Ink:  PTI:  Enchanted Evening, Ocean Tides, Ripe Avocado, Canyon Clay
Other:  PTI Picnic Plaid Impression Plate, dimensional adhesive

Color Challenges with Avery Elle

I ordered my second Avery Elle set (To the Point) the other day.  It arrived at my house the next day.  Talk about fast shipping.  I decided to play around with some color challenges.

This week's ColourQ color scheme screamed Halloween, but I didn't feel like making any Halloween cards.  I don't know why.  So I decided to see if I could use the colors in a different way.  I only have two Avery Elle sets, but they work so perfectly well together.  This card uses Framed Fonts and To the Point

Birthday

Once I got going, I had some more ideas about how to play with these two sets.  I used this week's Color Throwdown #213 to make two more cards.  For the first card, I used a Spellbinders circle die to cut a space for the sentiment, and raised the front panel just a bit with dimensionals.

Thank You

This next card is basically a vertical orientation of my first card.

Congratulations

Supplies Used:
Stamps:  Avery Elle Framed Fonts and To the Point
Paper:  PTI White
Ink for Birthday:  Memento Black, Winter Wisteria, Summer Sunrise, Orange Zest
Ink for Thank You and Congratulations:  Memento Tuxedo Black, Hibiscus Burst, Limeade Ice, Orange Zest

Casadia

Last week, I stumbled upon Wida's blog, Beachorado,  and learned that she was in the midst of a very fun project.  She and lots of her friends had embarked on a CASing adventure that she called CASADIA.  In this game, each person has cased the card of the person in front of them.  You can see the chain below.  It's almost like a game of telephone, as the cards migrate further and further away from the original card.  As you look at all these incredible cards, you can see who made the card, and you can click on their name to go to their blogs to see more about how their card was made.

Wida was kind enough to let me play along, so scroll down to see what I came up with:

Laura Bassen

Are you still with me?  Here is my card, that I cased from this card above by Julie:

Brighter Skies (by me)

I loved Julie's paper pieced umbrella, clouds and supportive sentiment, so that is the direction I took my card in.  I had just returned from Michaels with a brand new MME Reunion 6X6 paper pad, so I used those papers in my card, along with an umbrella from  Scattered Showers, and the Heart 2 Heart stamp set.

Well, this card is pretty far from where we started with the original card.  I remembered seeing that card when it was first posted, and wanted to see if I could case that one, too.  Here is what I came up with:

Happy Birthday

My card is a fun and colorful take on Laura Bassen's original card.  I went with a sentiment in the negative space behind a die cut, and used colored twine on the side for the buttons.

CASADIA has been great fun.  Thanks, Wida, for allowing me to play along.  If you would like to join in on the fun, please click here to get in touch with Wida.

Supplies Used (PTI):

Amazing fantastic

I am pretty sure that the Washi Tape trend must be coming to an end.  How do I know that?  Well, because I finally caved and got some.  I used this Washi Tape from My Minds Eye called Indie Chic Pictures Tape, and combined it with my latest stamp purchase from Avery Elle, Framed Fonts.  I  created this card below, which was inspired by a card from one of the Hero Arts blogs that popped up in my reader yesterday, but I can't seem to find today.  Oh, well, sorry.  The borders are from Lawn Fawn's Belinda's Borders set.

Supplies Used:
Stamps:  Avery Elle Framed Fonts, Lawn Fawn Belinda's Borders
Paper:  PTI Kraft
Ink:  Versamark, Memento Rich Cocoa, PTI Pure Poppy
Other:  PTI Happy Day Die, MME Indie Chic Pictures Tape, White Embossing Powder
