Get Scrappy Blog Hop

Today, I am excited to be participating in a 'Get Scrappy Bloghop' organized by Chaitali Nali of Cuts, Crops and Creativity.  You may be familiar with Chaitali from her Iron Craft challenges.  Well, today, she is getting us all motivated to use our scraps.  Chaitali's Get Scrappy Bloghop couldn't have come at a better time for me.  I recently took the on-line Pattern Play class, and learned all sorts of ways to use patterned paper.

I am here today to share some cards I made this week for some of my favorite challenges.  They all use patterned paper scraps.

One way to use paper scraps is for paper piecing.  I used Lawn Fawn's Sweet Christmas stamps and Bright Side paper to make a card for this week's Lawnscaping challenge No. 55.  Here are the scraps I used:

Scraps from Lawn Fawn Bright Side
I used 4 different patterns from my scraps to make this card.  I stamped with Versamark ink, heat embossed in white, and then fussy cut the images.

Here is an organizational tip I learned from my class.  Gather all the scraps from each 6X6 pad and keep them together in a scrap bundle.  That way, when you are looking to use a particular pad, you can check your scraps first.  Here is what my scrap bundle looks like for my Bright Side pad.

I keep my scrap bundles in zip lock bags, organized by manufacturer, right near the matching pad.  Here is an example for Lawn Fawn.

Another way to use patterned paper scraps--use a small piece of a striped pattern to help you choose the colors for your card.  And, by using patterns from the same pad, you already know things will match.  I used a sliver of a striped piece from Fancy Pants The Good Life to as my color scheme for this card, which is for the Mama Elephant Sketch Challenge #3

Here are the scraps:

I used Copic Markers in colors that matched the stripes to color in the word 'happiness' as well as the butterfly.  The clouds are made from scraps from that pad as well.  You can see that a little patterned paper goes a long way.

My last idea about how to use pattern paper scraps--make it the star of the show.  I created a focal point on this card using 4 different patterns from Pebbles Sunnyside.  This card is for this week's Simon Says Stamp birthday celebration, and it didn't need much more that those scraps.

I cut flags in varying sizes from 4 different patterned scraps to make my focal point for this card.

I will be entering all of these cards into this week's Anything Goes challenge at Simon Says Stamp and Show.

Here is a picture of how I store my patterned paper pads.  They are organized by manufacturer, and I keep them upside down, so it is easy to flip through and see what I have.  I have a ziplock bag at the back of each section which contains all the scrap bundles for those pads.

Here is a list of all the other participants in our Get Scrappy Blog Hop.  Please check out how they are using their scraps.  I am eager to look, as well.  A big thanks to Chaitali for organizing this blog hop, and for encouraging me to use my scraps!

Do you have a box, bin or pile of scraps?  Well, dive right in, make a project using some of those scraps and link it up here on Chaitali's blog.  She's got a prize for the winner.  And, it will give you an excuse to go out and buy more paper.  Leave comments all along the hop for another chance to win a prize.

  16. Joyce, your cards are so cute and what a clever way to use scraps of patterned paper that we all tend to hoard. Mine sit in Ziplock bags too but need to take it one step further and put them in a basket. Have you cut down 12x12s or do you only buy 6x6 paper pads? Thanks for all the great ways to use scraps and to organize!

  19. Love the way you are organizing your scraps = big pieces I leave in the pad and little ones go to a catch all basket - a very inefficient system, because I almost never go to the backet. All the cards are great - love the second one and the way you used the copics to carry the color palette through the whole card!
