Sending Hugs and Happy Birthday

I am playing along with this week's Make it Monday #252: Shadowing with Copic Markers.  I made this card using a Hugs word die from Big Hugs and framed it with the smallest die from Embroidered Borders.

I added the butterflies from Color Pop Butterflies.  You can see in the first photo that I shaded the right and lower portions of the word 'hugs' with a Copic BG11 marker.

I am also entering this card at Addicted to Stamps and More #197: Make Your Mark and Happy Little Stampers Anything Goes with Dies.

My next card was inspired by this card on Carol's blog.  As soon as I saw her card, I had to try to make my own.  Unfortunately, the stamp I used did not work for her technique, so I ended up doing a some ink blending instead.  I took my colors and floral inspiration from Inspired by All the Little Things #18.  eta.  I see that All the little things has closed, but I'll still show the photo here, because it is still where I got my color inspiration.

I heat embossed MFT Etched Flower and then sponged and blended 4 different colors of distress ink, matching the colors in the inspiration photo.

I am also linking this card up at CAS-ual Fridays CFC149: Florals, Addicted to CAS #89: Petals, and Seize the Birthday (no toppings).

Thanks for Visiting

  1. I always love landing on your blog Joyce as your cards have such a happy feel and inspire me so much to jump to it and try to grab some of your creative flair! A gorgeous duo and particularly love the bright cheery colour combo against the white embossed florals on the second one. Superb take on the petals and thanks for playing at ATCAS. Sarah

  4. Both cards are great, Joyce! Love the simplicity of the first one with the butterflies surrounding your framed sentiment. Your ink blending with the white embossed flowers is just stunning. Have resisted Distress Inks so far but think I might have to cave soon.

  6. The frame on the first card is so effective; drows your eyes straight to the sentiment! But the second is my favo; stunning sponing!
I don't have a lot of time to stamp, but I try to make it :) And it works perfect when I have been working all morning and have to hit the books in the afternoon; I take a break and clear my head by stamping... One of the better things of working at home :) Wish you a fun and relaxing weekend!

  12. The shading is very subtle on the hugs card but I think it definitely enhances the overall look, you would miss it if it weren't there.
