Saturday Crafting

I didn't need to dig too deep into my archives to find a card to remake for this week's PTI Transformation Tuesday challenge.

I posted this card yesterday for this week's PTI Make it Monday.  The challenge was masking and stacking.
Original Card
I was not that happy with how my card came out.  The die cut had a pretty large border around it, which made it not that great for creating masks, and I was not thrilled with the colors I chose.

I decided to redo this card for the Transformation Tuesday challenge.  I die cut and stamped a bunch of whales in a rainbow of colors, then layered the die cuts.  I like the new card much better.

I am entering this card at CAS-ual Fridays #194: Beautiful Rainbows, City Crafter #401: Die Cuts and Simon Says Wednesday, Addicted to Stamps and More #281, and Seize the Birthday Anything Goes.

My second card was inspired by the Die Cuts Only challenge at AAA Cards #109, the Clean and Simple challenge at Poppystamps #42, the colors at Just Add Ink #398, the Clean and Simple challenge at The Sisterhood of Crafters, and the In My Garden challenge at Simon Says Monday Challenge.

Hoppy and Happy Birthday

Happy Friday everyone.  I've got 2 cards to post today.  First up is a card for this week's Time Out #104 challenge...

Now,  I am on the reminder DT for this challenge, but I happened to feel like playing along a week early with some fun dies from Poppystamps:  Pond Frogs.  I used bold colors for my hopping frogs.  Poppystamps are our sponsor for this challenge, and they are also hosting their own challenge this month...PSC #42: Clean and Simple.

I am also taking the lead from my friend Sandie, and playing along at 2 challenges that are new to me, City Crafter Challenge #41: Die Cuts and The Sisterhood of Crafters: Clean and Simple.   And, I am also entering this card at Simon Says Monday Challenge In My Garden--yes, my garden has frogs.

My next card is for this week's PTI Make it Monday #313: Mask and Stack, Addicted to Stamps and More #281, Seize the Birthday, and Simon Says Wednesday Challenge, who all have Anything Goes this week.

I created a bunch of masks of this whale out of post-its, and followed Betsy's technique to create a pod of whales.

CASology Week 120: SEA

Hello and happy Tuesday.  It's time for another CASology challenge, and our cue word this week is SEA.  How fun is that?  Did you know that the town I live in is called Cardiff-by-the-Sea?  Yes, I can pop down to the beach any day I please, and I don't think a day goes by that I do not see the ocean as I am walking around or driving around just going about my business.  I know that I am truly spoiled.

Anyway, back to card business, my stash of baby boy cards has dwindled down to absolutely nothing, so I used this challenge as an opportunity to pull out my sweet Whale from Whale Wishes to create a baby boy card.  For some reason, the colors are completely off--that little strip in the middle is only a slightly darker shade of blue in real life, and I created it by stamping a plaid pattern on a little strip of card stock using Waltzingmouse Offbeat Backgrounds.

My card design was inspired by this sketch from CAS(E) this Sketch.

Now, it is your turn.  What do you think of when you see the word SEA?  Does it make you want to come and visit me?  Have some fun with the cue word SEA, and then please link up your creation on the CASology blog by Monday at noon (CST).

Check out the beautiful designs from the CASology Design Team members and see how they were inspired by SEA.  Don't forget to keep your card Clean and Simple.

CASology Week 95: Splash

It's Tuesday and that means it is time for a new challenge at CASology.  Our cue word this week is SPLASH.   Perfect timing as we are headed into summer and warmer temps.  There are so many different ways to approach this word.  I haven't pulled out my cute little whale in a while, so I decided to take him out to play.  Think of this whale splashing around to wish some young person a happy birthday.

I die cut the whale from PTI's Whale Wishes and stamped him in Memento Luxe Grey Flannel.  I don't normally use pigment inks because I am an impatient and lazy crafter, but in this case, the amazing coverage I got with that ink was totally worth it.  I had tried stamping with a number of different dye inks, and was not happy with the way the whale looked.  I stamped the sentiment and the little spout splashes, then impressed my front panel with the Sunshine Impression Plate and popped the whale up with foam tape.  I used Watercolor Wonder stamps to stamp a striped border down the left side of my card base.  I wanted to have a splash of color on the card that did not detract from my main panel.

How about you?  What do you think of when you see the word SPLASH?    Have some fun with this cue word, and then please link up your creation on the CASology blog by Monday 5/19 at noon (CST).

Since CASology is a Clean And Simple challenge, I thought it would be helpful to review some things to keep in mind when creating a CAS design:

1.  One main image
2.  Lots of open space (uncluttered)
3.  Limited layers & embellishments
4.  Quick & easy to recreate

You can see that my card meets all 4 criteria above.

So, what do you think of when you see the word SPLASH?

Check out the beautiful designs from the CASology Design Team members and see how they were inspired by SPLASH.  Then, please play along and link your creation to the CASology blog by Monday 5/19 at noon (CST).

Don't forget to keep your card Clean and Simple.

My Crafty Weekend, So Far

Happy Easter to all my friends who celebrate.  Things around here are pretty quiet.  Not much to do but craft on Easter weekend if you are Jewish.  I decided I'd better take a break, post what I have made, and clean up.  It's a pretty nice day here, so I think we will all head down to the beach for a nice walk later.

First up is a baby card that I made with my new Hello Foxy set as well as some paper scraps from Echo Park Hello Summer.   This card is for Retro Sketches rs#57 and Simon Says Stamp Anything Goes.  I did a little paper piecing on the fox, and the heart is popped up and covered with Glossy Accents.

Next up, another baby card, this one for this week's Dynamic Duos DD# 46.  I used Autumn Rose as my deep pink, and Memento Angel Pink for my 2nd color choice.  I was inspired by this card by Christina.  I used Watercolor Wonder for the stripes, and Whale Wishes for everything else.

One more card for Dynamic Duos.  This time, my 2nd color choice was Simply Chartreuse.  I wanted to play around with my new Waltzingmouse Camellia set that I won.

Next up is another card inspired by Christina.  I am linking up to this week's ColourQ cQc #182 and the Chevon Challenge in the Moxie Fab World.  I've got chevrons on my Happy Harlequins, and they are stamped in a chevron pattern--double chevrons today.  This card is also for this week's One Layer Wednesday challenge to use a shape repeatedly on a one layer card.

My next card is for this week's CASology week 37, where the key word is 'hope'.  I used Amuse Fight Like A Girl and Paper Smooches Hope to make this card I hope I never have to use. Edited to add--bummer, I missed the CASology deadline...

My last three cards use the technique taught in this week's Make it Monday #109:  Watercolor Stamping Plus Embossing.  This technique is harder than Betsy makes it look in the video.  Lots of my inks ran together to create a funny shade of brown.  But, I did get it work a few times on some die cuts, so those were the ones I used to create my cards.

This card uses Hibiscus Burst and Winter Wisteria.  I omitted the white embossing on the smaller buds, because there would have been almost no color showing if I didn't.

These next two cards use Hibiscus Burst, Berry Sorbet and Hawaiian Shores.

Well, that's it for me for this weekend, so far.  I'm not going to type up all the supplies, but please let me know if you have any questions.
