Time Out #168...Reminder...Life is Better in Flip Flops

There is still time to play along with the current challenge at Time Out.  We challenge you to make a card inspired by this beautiful photo.

Here is a better look at just the inspiration photo...

I was inspired by several elements in this photo:   the colors, the beachy theme, and of course, those flip flops, which are the star of the show on my card.  As you may know, I live in a little beach town just north of San Diego, and flip flops are standard foot wear year round.  I really believe the sentiment on my card.

Please head over to Time Out to see more inspiration from our Design Team and our Guest Designer, EnnaUniko is our sponsor for this challenge.  Details for the prize are on the Time Out Challenge Blog.

This challenge will run another week.  I hope you will take some Time Out of your busy schedule to play along with us.

CASology Week #311...Flip

Hello and happy Tuesday. It's time for another challenge at CASology.   This week, our cue word is FLIP.  Being a Southern California gal, I pretty much live in flip flops.  Having a polka dotted pair in every color would be like a dream come true.

Now it's your turn.  How does FLIP inspire you?  I hope you play along this week.  Please remember to keep it Clean and Simple.

Please head on over to the CASology blog and gather some inspiration from the design team.

Labor Day Crafting

I am back from vacation and done with the laundry--time to hit the craft room!

First up is a card using the sketch at CAS(E) this Sketch #237.  I took a little bit of liberty with the sketch, but was so excited about how my rainbow was looking, I did not want to stop.

I am also entering this card at Simon Says Stamp Monday Stamp It challenge, as there was so much stamping involved.

Next is a card for Make it Monday #296: Small Images on Repeat.   I used some images from Tiny Treats Birthday to make a card to add to my birthday stash.  I followed Lexi's suggestion to make the card smaller--mine is an A1 sized card.  I am also entering this card into Seize the Birthday Anything Goes.

Last up--a card for Just Us Girls #409: Shoes.  Well, this So Cal gal lives in flip flops, so that is what I went with.  I am also entering this card at Less is More #344: Lime Green / Royal Blue, and Simon Says Wednesday Anything Goes.

CTD250, DD61 and Moxie Fab Birthday

Happy Monday.  I have two birthday cards today that use the colors from this week's Color Throwdown CTD250--can you tell I really like these colors?  And, making birthday cards?  I will also be entering these cards into the Anything Goes challenge at Seize the Birthday as well as the Birthday Card Challenge in the Moxie Fab World.  And, I will enter just the first card into the polka dot challenge at CAS-ual Fridays CFC109.

My inspiration for this second card was from this card by Laurie Willison.

On a more somber note, I thought that the colors for this week's Dynamic Duos would work well for a sympathy card.  I stamped Harvest Berries in Fresh Snow on Kraft paper, then over stamped in Pretty in Pink just a little offset.  I love this look.  The top panel is raised, and the back edge has the smaller Harvest Berries image stamped in craft.

More Cards for My Campers

The house is so very quiet, with both daughters gone--one at lacrosse camp, and one at Comic-Con.  Gone, but not forgotten, as I have taken advantage of this quiet time to make some cards for them to open while at camp.

This first card will go to my oldest when she is at camp in Malibu later this summer (rough life, that one).   I was sitting at Starbucks yesterday, fiddling with my coffee stirrer, while reading about this week's CAS-ual Fridays challenge, and I had an idea.  I made a little dock for her flip flops out of strips of wood (coffee stirrers).

Flip Flops

I am also entering this card into this week's Passion for Papertrey:  Anything Goes challenge, as well as Amy's July Paper Dolls challenge to use Focal Point Impressions.

If you have been reading my blog for any length of time, I won't have to tell you who this next card is for.  We will pick Sarah up from lacrosse camp tomorrow,  feed her some lunch, and then drive across town to deposit her at volleyball camp.  I got an idea of how much she appreciates my cards while we were packing her up the other day.  She reminded me at least 5 times not to forget to pack her cards, and to please label them so she knew which card to open on which day.  So, I think that warrants a daily card, don't you?

Hey There

This card is based on this week's Retro Sketches #20.

Supplies Used (PTI):
Flip Flops
Stamps:  Flipping Out
Paper:  Spring Rain, White
Other:  Flipping Out Dies, pearls, Coffee Stirrers, Sunshine IP

Hey There
Stamps:  Paper Smooches Sentiment Sampler

Make it Monday #70

This week, Erin Lincoln shows us how to make a card with puffed fabric accents in MIM #70.  This is certainly something I had never thought of before.

About a year ago, I discovered a very cool little quilting shop right in my own town.  I bought a bunch of fabrics there to use in my card making, folded them up, and put them in the back of my closet.  Good thing, because I knew just where to go today.  The good thing about having a hoard, I mean stash, is that one is always prepared, right?  I pulled out a piece of batik fabric and got to work.

I am a literal person--this fabric reminded me of a sundress I had many years ago, so I used it with the dress form die, and some Echo Park Splash paper.  This was a pretty fun technique, and a great way to use some of that fabric I've been hoarding.   I hope to have time this week to try it again.

Happy Summer

Change of plans for end of school year--instead of thank you notes, I decided to make English Toffee and Happy Summer Tags.  The English Toffee was the best gift I could think of, especially for the girls' bus driver, who is basically my hero.  He is the nicest guy, and is the reason that I am able to play tennis, spin, and make cards all day, since he saves me over an hour and a half in rush hour traffic every morning.

My first tag uses the color scheme for this week's Dynamic Duos challenge DD#5.  I interpreted these colors as Pure Poppy and Hawaiian Shores.

Here is a peek at what is behind the tag:

Here is the collection of tags.  They are all variations on the same theme, using different PTI Tag Sale dies and the Flipping Out stamp set.  Colors are Pure Poppy, Hawaiian Shores, and Summer Sunrise.

Here is a peek at the back of the tags:

I basically use this recipe by David Lebovitz for my English Toffee.  It's surprisingly easy to make.

Here is a very happy sight:

Make it Monday and Retro Sketches

I made one more pocket card for this week's Make it Monday MIM68:  Pocket Cards, and then I almost forgot to post it.  Good thing I remembered--you never know which card will be a random winner, right?  I really wanted to use Flipping Out with the Aloha stamp set.  I did some background stamping with the Hibiscus flower from that set.  After I made this card, I saw what Marybeth did here, and I want to try that, too.

Relax

I have had so much crafting time this weekend.  It is a typical gloomy June weekend at our house, with coastal fog until late afternoons, and my daughter has been studying hard for her first set of high school finals.  She's been studying in my office, which means I can keep her company and craft at the same time--win--win.  Later we will be going to a swim party about 1 mile inland, where is is sure to be warm and sunny.  I clearly have summer on the brain.

I made this card for this week's Retro Sketches RS#14.  This is the first time I have ever rotated a sketch, and I hope I did it right.  I thought flip flops and ice cream went together perfectly.
