Well, last week was a lot of fun. I was surprised to learn that many of you guys who played along with the challenge did not even like purple. I love purple, and it did not even occur to me that anyone would feel otherwise. Who knew how under appreciated purple is? So, I learned something, and was impressed with everyone who played along despite their own personal feelings about purple.
Perhaps this week will be a bit less controversial, with the CASology #81 cue word of AND. What do you think of when you hear the word AND? How are you inspired? I immediately thought of my PTI Grand Ampersand set, which has so many different varieties of the word 'AND'--which I had to have the moment it was released, and then never even inked it up.
I think that this may just be the valentine I give to my DH. He is not too into the mushy stuff, and I think the masculine color scheme would suit him just fine.
I knew I wanted to have the ampersand in a window, with the 'you' and 'me' straddling the window. I have seen lots of ways people accomplish this and get the stamping lined up, but here is my secret way: I stamped everything on the white panel, then used a 1 1/4" circle punch to punch out the window. I ran that panel through my big shot with the Canvas/Linen Impression Plate and adhered it to my card base with foam tape. I used normal adhesive to adhere the punched out circle directly to the card base, and just made sure everything was lined back up. I find this way much more reliable than stamping twice and trying to stamp in the right place.
The most time consuming part of this card was fiddling with those patterned paper strips (Authentique Fresh) to get that left border exactly how I wanted it. This card is a good example of how you can use patterned paper sparingly and still keep a card CAS.
Check out the beautiful designs from the CASology
Design Team members and see how they were inspired by AND. Then,
please play along and link your creation to the CASology blog by Sunday,
February 9 by 4PM (CST).
How will you be inspired by AND?
I can't wait to see how you are inspired by AND.
Thanks for Visiting
I love your card Joyce. From the fabulous strips of patterned paper on the left perfectly placed to the subtle texture with the impression plate to the main focal point. Just lovely. I'll be pinning this one.
ReplyDeleteSuch a cool effect on that left-hand strip - very clever!
ReplyDeleteJoyce this is a fabulous design, the circle cut out with the off centered '&' is really cool.
ReplyDeleteI like your trick for lining up the center of your punched out area! Perfect masculine card!
ReplyDeleteI am sure Peter is going to be so impressed with the perfect alignment of those strips... about as much as Warren would! LOL, but the rest of us know how tough that is to get it just perfect! I love the ampersand and the sequins...just the right amount of bling on a masculine card!
ReplyDeleteIsn't it funny how the "random" parts of a design are the hardest parts to get right? All the fiddling was worth it. Fun and funky guy colours. And I like your tip for lining up your circle. Must keep that in mind...
ReplyDeleteSuch a sweet Valentine's for your hubby...I know he will love it. Maybe you could sell him one to give to you too. Just a thought...
ReplyDeleteThis is so fun and I love that your ampersand is in the circle...so cute.
those pattern papers on the left are perfect. Love how you did it.
ReplyDeleteGreat CAS design Joyce your hubby will love it!!
ReplyDeleteIsn't it the truth that sometimes one part of the card is the fiddliest to get right, like those strips of paper? This is a good example of how to use them up on a card (and not overwhelm the card). Great card! AND... I love the use of the word "and" as a card making prompt.
ReplyDeleteLove this gorgeous blend of colours and the definitely-worth-all-the-fiddling DP border, Joyce ... and what a great tip for making the window ... inspired! Anita :)
ReplyDeleteHi Joyce. I love this creation. I love the treatment on the left. The left and right borders are so colorful and then there is all that luscious white space. Fabulous job.
ReplyDeleteLooks like fun this week - I need to get to it and PLAY! I really like how you stamped on and off the circle or should I say in and out? Makes this really extraordinary!
ReplyDeleteOh Joyce this is so fun, I just love the multi paper panel :)
ReplyDeleteVery cool effect with the patterned papers on the left! Your CAS design is fabulous--love the circle! Thanks for the tips on getting it stamped and lined up!
ReplyDeleteThis is a beautiful CAS card and I love the papers to the side. I love purple but never had a chance to make a card. Who knew it was such a non liked color. I love the impression plate you used…...
ReplyDeleteWOW Joyce!!! This is simply FABULOUS!!! So love the simplicity but with a lot of bang! Gorgeous card :)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous Joyce! Love your card, the strips DIVINE, and I must ask you darling - wherever did you get that awesome white cardstock with the distressy feel to it. LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWell the fiddle time on the paper was worth it. This is a gorgeous card. I'm sure your hubby will love it!
ReplyDeleteLOVE this. The patterned paper border looks cool - well worth your efforts! Me too for Grand Ampersand.....I think that's what I'll use for this challenge too to get my $$ out of it!
ReplyDeleteHahaha, yes, the ampersand is probably less controversial than purple! It looks wonderful on your card. And another non-traditional valentine. Love it!
ReplyDeleteawesome design!
ReplyDeleteI love the subtle effect using the Canvas/Line impression, and the stripes are so fun.
ReplyDeleteJoyce, it is so funny...I had to have the Grand Ampersand stamp set when I saw it but didn't ink it up intil this challenge, too! (So glad I had it when this cue came along!) I love the colors you have chosen, and the coordinating papers on the edge are a perfect touch. I'm sure your husband will really like this card!
