I made a card for this week's Make it Monday, MIM #56: Die Cutting Partial Images. In this video, Betsy shows how to use chipboard and fun foam to cut part of a die. Perhaps there was trick photography involved? Maybe it needs to be snowing outside? Probably, Betsy is truly a wizard! At any rate, I could not get that technique to work for me, so I used a method I saw on some other blogs where you just run the die sandwich partially through the machine, and then back the sandwich out. However it is done, I think the effect is pretty cool.
Supplies Used (PTI):
Stamps: Beautiful Butterflies
Paper: White, Berry Sorbet
Other: Beautiful Butterflies die, Linen IP, Stickles
Thanks for Visiting
Joyce,
ReplyDeleteYou did an awesome job with this challenge. I love how you have the butterfly angled. The stamped background of butterflies is so pretty. Great color choice too.
Love love love your beautiful butterfly Joyce. I watched the video a few times and thought, nope, not gonna happen. However, I have seen posts where crafters do exactly what you said, run part way in and then back out. Maybe, we'll see, but your card is fantastic!
ReplyDeleteWow, wow, wow!! I love this card :) I love how all the butterflies are flying in the same direction, and your big focal butterfly...perfect job on the technique! I love your color choice, too :)
ReplyDeletelove the direction of the butterflies!! really has movement and makes your card so unique!
ReplyDeleteAgree, Joyce, that Betsy's technique didn't work for me either so I did a work-around instead. Got similar results. Your butterly card is adorable and looks like they are in flight.
ReplyDeleteSuper fun card, I am kicking myself that I didn't get the dies.
ReplyDeleteIt's a good life!

Well, whatever technique you used, hour card turned out great! I see you used your new butterfly set too. I love how you used versamark to make the patterned paper and it makes the diecut butterfly look like it is ready to fly off with the other butterflies. Do I see a linen and canvas IP on this one too? I knew you would love it!
ReplyDeleteAmazing! Love the angle of your main butterfly, and just how cheerful your whole ard feels :)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous card, Joyce! I agree with everyone who's commented on the angle of the butterflies--there's something about it that is just perfect. Love the sentiment placement, too!
ReplyDeleteNo matter how you made your card, it is just so stunning! I love the colors and those butterflies are just so adorable. I bought the dies now I need the stamps! Great job on the card!
ReplyDeleteOh...I really like this. Love the butterlies on the right side..great touch.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!! Love the colors and the glitter on the butterfly.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Joyce! I love the colors and the way you did the partial die cut with the butterfly is amazing. I want that set...
ReplyDeleteSo pretty Joyce, and such a clever use of the die!
ReplyDeleteI'm with you-Betsy is something else! I think this challenge has stirred more imagination than expected-with stunning results, such as your card! This is one of my MIM 56 favorites!!!
ReplyDeleteJoyce,
ReplyDeleteThis is sooooo pretty! Love the color you chose and the little extra details like the glitter and the debossing. In the past, I wasn't a big butterfly person, but I absolutely love those stamps.
Hope you have a wonderful day!
I had to go and watch the video and it seems one of those techniques where you have to get it just right for it to work!!
ReplyDeleteYour process seems to have worked just as well and I love the finished card :0)

Great job with the technique, Joyce! I just got these stamps and dies and am eager to play with them.... I love your pretty card!
ReplyDeleteI have to admit this method you used makes so much more sense to me. Sorry Betsy ! Love your card Joyce and the colors are beautiful. Nice job on the stamped background too!
ReplyDeleteI love all the butterflies!!! The subtle stamping on the background is just perfect.
ReplyDeleteNo smoke and mirrors needed here. This is just beautiful. I love the card front's composition and that over hanging wing is so sweet. Not to mention that darling shadow/background stamping of the other butterlies taking flight. The perfect amount of glitz added too.
ReplyDeleteAll that carry on with Betsy's MIM vid had me say never mind. You, ever so crafty one, have just inspired me to give it a go. Thank you for that!
You weren't holding your tongue right...
ReplyDeletewith your eyes crossed...
and hanging upside down...
that's the secret...
*giggle*
Regardless of how you got there...
this is gorgeous!
Love the way the die is cut...
it really gives the butterfly motion...
just gorgeous! :)
You definitely get an A+ on this MIM challenge! Everything is so beautifully done. Love the subtle butterfly background and your fantastic partially cut out one. I agree that your card shows wonderful movement--great job!!
ReplyDeleteOh, I have missed so much on my favorite blogs! I really must stop spending all my time reading that smut! I like seeing pretty cards, not seeing people argue, and this is a pretty card, indeed! I really must try this technique this week! You did a beautiful job with it!
ReplyDeleteI couldn't quite get a handle on this one either. I like your technique better!
