The 12 Kits of Christmas: August

Well, summer is almost over, and my daughters are about to go back to school.  I have to say that I think I am ready, although I do not think that they would agree.  End of August means it is also time for my monthly 12 Kits of Christmas post.  If you are wondering what you have stumbled into, please click here for more information.  This month's kit was generously provided by Kim of Cupcakes, Cards and Kim.  Just take a look at all the goodies she sent.  One of the most fun parts about this group is getting to play with stamp sets and dies I don't have, and this month was no exception.  Kim provided us with some wonderful digital images, and they were all new to me.  There were so many fun  elements--die cuts, stamped images, and papers to play with--and the colors were beautiful and non traditional this time.

I made 5 cards from Kim's wonderful kit, and I still have lots left over.

This card is a 4X4 square.  Don't you just love that shoe?

I must admit that some of these cards actually made themselves.  So, if you like them, you should let Kim know, because she sent me a kit with a lot of self assembling ingredients.  Yay.

Now, for another little twist that Renee started last month.  She challenged us to add an extra card every month that would be a CASE of another group member's card from a previous month.  What a great way to use up the leftovers we have all been hoarding.  She even put together a pinboard, where we can easily see all the cards we have made with this group.  Check it out here--it's a great source of holiday inspiration.  I chose to case one of Christina's cards from her July kit.  I loved the stamped branch image she included in the kit, but didn't know what to do with it.  I decided to save it, and use it for my CASE.  I would have duplicated the sewing, if I had a sewing machine.  I love stitching on cards, but have resisted that purchase so far.  I think I would probably ruin a lot of cards.

I had such fun playing with all the goodies in Kim's kit, and now I am eager to see what everyone else has created.  Thank you so much, Kim, for sending such a wonderful kit, and for giving your ingredients such great instructions about what to do once I unpacked them.  If you are curious about anything used to make these cards, head over to Kim's blog, where she will have information on the supplies she sent.

  1. Beautiful! Love the 4x4 card you made, I also made two that size. The first one with Merry… is very pretty love the repeat of that sentiment. You made me laugh with your comment about not sewing .Great job on the CASE of Christina’s card. I think your 4x4 card is my favorite.

  2. These are all fabulous Joyce! A great mix of papers, and festive cheer!
I hear you on the back to school front - 5 days of holiday left for my little darlings, and as much as I love them, I'm looking forward to some routine and more importantly some crafty time! And they can't wait for school either, they are bored!

  3. Oh boy, I'm having a really hard time choosing a favorite...I love the multiple "merrys" on the first with the pearl period at the end :) Love the mat stack 3 in the middle of the second! Yes, love that shoe on the 3rd :) And how its a square card! I really like the text background and that little "awning" on the next, and the patterned paper pairings and huge Christmas sentiment on the last in the mat stack 2. You really know how to put things together, Joyce! And you picked an awesome card to case. I love the little banner with the sentiment that you added to yours :)

  5. I do love that shoe!! It looks so cute as a 4 x 4 too! I also really like the Merry x 3 with the pearl at the bottom. It looks really good on the embossed panel. The pink ribbon is so cute on your 2nd card (or was it 3rd)...too many to remember all the exact details, but it looked so pretty and I always love anything done on Mat Stack 3, the trees are really cute and colored so brightly. Your case of Christina is really good and you even mixed it up a bit flipping from bottom to top! Great job this month Joyce.

  7. Wow!! Great holiday cards! I'm still trying to squeeze the last bits of sunshine out of summer, I can't even think about the holidays yet. I really love the big font on the merry card and the shoe card is awesome!!

I had to respond to your butter/margarine question. I never ever use margarine, it grosses me out too. I just substitute butter for the marg. In fact, I didn't really even notice it said margarine. I just pulled butter out of my fridge and used that!!

  8. Joyce I love your cards, LOVE that shoe and I love your designs. You created fabulous cards--I love the shiny paper on the first card. As usual am going to CASE you. Kim put together such non tradtional colours but that is what makes everyone's projects so unique.

  9. Hmm, OK, a favorite, hard to choose, but I am going to go with the "Holiday wishes" on the book page. Love text on text designs! And the pearl you used for the dotted "i" is the perfect finishing touch.

  10. Joyce - you always crack me up - self making cards!! They came together beautifully - love the clean look you achieved. So clever that you stamped Wishes under Holiday! (why didn't I think of that?) I love the little shoe and the christmas tree with the pink background - the green and pink are beautiful together!

  11. Beautiful job, Joyce! Your CAS designs all look fantastic! The shoe card is amazing and making a 4x4 square works great--a perfect small notecard! Love the combo of patterns on your last card! I forget how effective that can be and your card is so pretty! And I just adore that little bird on your CASE card--so sweet! I can see using that design on a whole set!

  12. Joyce, see it pays to hand deliver the kits right...LOL So happy you got the kit with the self assembling cards. Your cards are just too sweet and the one with the shoe is just so stunning. I love how you layered it and backed it with the striped paper, but your coloring is so beautiful and I would love to have a pair of shoes like this, so fun and festive. I fell in love with the striped paper and set several aside for alter use and I am so happy that I have some left. I do have to say that my favorite one is your first, with merry on it with the snow flake embossed paper, just too sweet and very clever. All of your cards are fabulous, but then I knew they would be!

  13. Ooh, so excited to see your CASE! I love the addition of the sentiment banner and red mat! You did an amazing job with Kim's kit, too. I love the simple repetition of the word "merry" against the embossed background. The ruffled ribbon looks fantastic as a border on your second card, and I love how you framed the image in the Mat Stack. It's fun to see the different papers that we each got with this kit. You used them beautifully!

  14. What gorgeous cards, Joyce! I love them all!
I just got that Hero Arts Large Pine Bough stamp (thinking I'd use it with the Vintage Ornaments from PTI), but I love how you used it with the bird-- I'll have to remember this when I start making Christmas cards!
    Thanks for the inspiration!

  16. Joyce, merry merry merry is RIGHT!!! Look at how many cards you've made. WOW! They're all so great, and I LOVE that for your CASE you went with a bird silhouette instead of red. It's a fabulous idea and looks great!
