Make it Monday #43: Happy Birthday

I am here with a card for this week's Make it Monday #43, where Dawn teaches us how to make a pleated ribbon border for our projects.  You can see the video here.

This is my first time trying this technique, and I have to say, my ribbon looks more scrunched than pleated.  However, I am still happy with the way the card came out.  Let's just call these pleats 'unique'.  I based the layout of this card on this card by Laurie at Soapbox Creations.

Just in Time: Play Date Cafe

I am cutting it pretty close, but I am making my second post of the day today in order to sneak in a couple of cards for this week's Play Date Cafe PDCC108 challenge.  You can see my first post today here.

The colors we were given to work with were maroon, copper and tumeric.  I used Scarlet Jewel and Terra Cotta Tile papers and Amuse Currant ink and Colorbox Roussilon and Amber inks.

I wanted to use PTI's Simple Sunflower stamps and dies, since I hadn't really used them much.  I couldn't decide if the sunflowers should be Currant or Roussilon, so I ended up making two cards.  The first card was inspired by this card by Amy at Stamp-n-Paradise.

Crafting With My Niece

My sister and her family were just visiting us for Thanksgiving, and one day, my 17 year old niece said those magic words every crafter wants to hear:  "Aunt Joyce, can you teach me how to make a card?"  Well, I didn't need to hear anything more than that.  We were off to the races.  We had such a good time together.  She is a quick study, a crafty gal, and super neat.  I told her I would post her creations for all my friends to see.

She made this card and matching bookmark for a friend whose birthday is around the holidays:

Her last card is my favorite.  She made it all by herself, while I was in the kitchen, getting things ready for dinner.  She based it on a card I had made earlier, which was a version of this card by Euna.  I'll be casing this one for sure:

She and her family left this morning, and my craft room seems especially quiet.  I sure hope she comes to visit again soon.

Make it Monday: Take Three Winter

Better late than never--I'm here with a card for Make it Monday #42:  Layered Background with Sentiment Stamps. I really like this technique, and really like the stamp set I chose.  I don't know why I don't use this set more often.  I finally got my shipment of Amuse inks, and I used Fern on this card.  I'm actually not too sure about this card, but I am posting it anyway.

Papertrey November Blog Hop

I hope all my friends from the US had a nice Thanksgiving.  Now, put down the turkey, because it's time for the November Papertrey Blog Hop.  Nicole provided us with this beautiful inspiration photo:

There were so many wonderful elements to pull from this photo.  The main impression I had was one of a cozy scene at home.  I also wanted to incorporate the red and green, the natural wood, the red ribbon, the greenery of the plants, and the gingham sofa.  Here is my card:

Christmas Wreaths

I have a few more Christmas cards to show you that I have just sent off to Cards that Care, a challenge to collect Christmas cards for the elderly in nursing homes.  I am also entering them into the Passion for Papertrey holiday challenge.  They are all variations of A Wreath for All Seasons, a set I bought back in July, but didn't ink up until just now.  I used the woodgrain IP on all the cards.  Sentiments are either from Wreath for All Seasons or Peaceful Garden.

Chanukah Snowman: WM Style

My friend Cathy from Empty Nest Crafters and I made a card together today for this week's Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge WMSC74. 

Meet Golda, an Irish-Jewish female snowman, made in sunny Southern California--here to wish you a Happy Chanukah.

Golda

Cathy cut and stamped the snowman with WM Nordic Winter.  Then she sent the snowman to me for the finishing touches.  She even sent me her WM Flourishes- Scallops and Dots set, which I used to create the background and the snowdrifts.  Great teamwork, right?

Christmas Tree Bling

I found a beautiful Hero Arts Christmas tree stamp at Michaels the other day, on sale for only $5.99.  Since I don't have any Christmas tree stamps, and I am trying to make lots of CAS cards for Cards that Care, I just had to bring this stamp home.  I love it when I can indulge myself, and pretend I am just doing a good deed.  I am going to enter these cards into the Hero Arts November Challenge to 'bling it up'. 

I used Colorbox Evergreen ink and clear embossing powder on the tree.  It's hard to see in the picture, but the sentiment, from Wreath for all Seasons is stamped in black.  I used red jelly dots on the tree for the bling.

This one is the same idea, but I used blue ink for the tree and clear jelly dots for the bling.

Chanukah Snowmen

I finally got a chance to play with my new snowman dies, and, wouldn't you know it, my coordinating stamp set decided to play hide and seek with me.  Fortunately, my good friend Cathy from Empty Nest Crafters was kind enough to loan me her set for a bit.  I don't have any stamping friends close by to hang out with, but having a generous friend who is 1 day away by USPS is the next best thing.

I decided to make a few Chanukah Snowmen (or Snowwomen) cards.  I have given each of them a Yiddish name, just for fun.

I am entering these cards into this week's Passion for Papertrey challenge, which is to make a card for the holidays using at least one Papertrey product.  My snow people and I would like to send wishes for a Merry Christmas and a Happy Chanukah to all our European Papertrey friends.

Sending Warm Winter Wishes

I am playing along with this week's ColourQ CQC #111 challenge using a brand new WPlus9 set, Winter Wishes.  I fell in love with this card, and knew I needed to buy this stamp set.  I think I have a thing for mittens.

I interpreted this weeks colors as best I could, using the supplies I had.  I used Crumb Cake ink, Kraft paper, PTI Spring Moss ink, Colorbox Roussilon ink, and Distress Dusty Concord ink. I made a few more of this card, for Cards that Care, only changing up the sentiments a bit.

I made another card in my own color scheme of SU Real Red, Brilliance Pearlescent Sky Blue, and SU Brilliant Blue.

Waltzingmouse November Blog Waltz

Here I am, back for my second Waltzingmouse Blog Waltz.  Happy Holidays everyone!  The theme this month is Winter/Christmas, and I have a card for you made with some goodies sent to me by the generous and talented Renee of Its A Patchwork Life.  After making two cards out of the loot Renee sent for our Four-of-a-Kind challenge, which you can see here, I still had enough left over to make a card for today.

I just love Ocean Tides and Red together.  I paired those with a bit of soft stone for this festive holiday card.  Snowflakes all around--which is kind of funny since I live in San Diego, but a girl can still dream, right?
