The 12 Kits of Occasions: October 2013

This year is just speeding by.  It is hard to believe that October is almost over, and that means it is time for my 12 Kits of Occasions post.  Our theme this month is Autumn and Thanksgiving and our hostess is Kara of KandRdesigns. Kara sent such a wonderful kit with lots of fun and unusual items.  I used some and hoarded some, so I can make some more cards when I see what everyone else has done.  Here is a picture of this month's kit:

I am going to jump right into my cards since there is a lot to see.  This first card is my favorite.  I used a piece of card stock that Kara had included that she had stamped with a beautiful leaf collage.  I used some of my own leaf dies to cut into that paper, built the die cuts up a bit, and then replaced them.  It turns out that this technique has an official name, and is the topic of this week's Make it Monday #138:  Inlaid Die Cuts.  Check out Betsy's video for more a detailed tutorial.  I will be submitting this card to this week's Make it Monday challenge.

Kara sent these really cool gold leaves, and I was only brave enough to use just one of them.  But, I did use almost the entire piece of woodgrain paper from the kit.

I colored this image with Prisma color pencils.  Must say that I am not in love with the colors I chose and my coloring job.

I fussy cut some of the Autumn Hills images and paired them up with one of the die cut words and some of the patterned papers in the kit for my last card.

The challenge at Simon Says Monday is Anything Goes, and I will be submitting all of today's cards there.

That's it for me today.  I have so many leftover supplies, and I know I will see lots of fun ways to use them when I see the posts from all the other members of 12 kits.  Thank you so very much, Kara, for sending such a wonderful kit.  You can also see a complete supply list on the 12 Kits of Occasions blog, by clicking on the Supplies tab on the upper right.

One Quick Card

I have a quick card for today that works for several challenges:  ColourQ cQc #213 for colors, Simon Says Wednesday Halloween or Halloween colors--I pick Halloween colors, Addicted to CAS:  One Layer and the Caring Hearts Card Drive

A lot of challenges for a very simple card.  I drew the strings by hand.  I thought these lanterns looked a bit like Christmas ornaments.

Paper:  White
Ink:  Winter Wisteria, Limeade Ice, Color Box Orange Fizz, Memento Gray Flannel

PTI October 2013 Blog Hop

The Papertrey October blog hop challenge this month was to make a set of 5 tags.  I had the idea to make several sets and then package them up in a cute way to use as teacher gifts.  I got through 3 sets before running out of time for the blog hop.  But, there is certainly enough time before Christmas break to make more sets.  In fact, I'm sure that I will get lots of inspiration when I see what everyone else did for this blog hop.

My first set of tags uses Peaceful Pinecones.  They are not all exactly alike, but I think they look like they belong together.  The sentiments are from Holiday Lights, and the To/From stamps are from To You From Me.  The bells are from Michaels, and there is a bit of prisma glitter on each of the pinecones.

And, here they are all packaged up:

My next set of tags uses Holiday Lights, with Glossy Accents on the lights.

Here they are packaged up, this time in a glassine bag with a topper I made using one of the Edger dies.

My last set of tags uses Two Feet Deep.  Instead of using a tag sale die, I just used the sled.  I put a folded partially die cut piece behind the sled where the person could write a message.

I did not get a chance to package these up, but I will.  I am thinking I prefer the little box.

Well, that's it for me.  I am flying up to Northern California to get together with my college girlfriends for the weekend.  We have been doing this for more than 20 years.  I am looking forward to a relaxing weekend of lots of talking, eating, laughing and drinking.  So, I'll be hopping either Sunday night or Monday, when I get home.

Muse #40 and Hope You Can Cling To

Good morning, friends.  Today I have a card for this week's Muse #40, where our inspiration comes from the ever-fabulous Darnell.  Check out the card we get to work with this week:

Darnell's Card

I was inspired by the flower, the vertical orientation, and the sentiment.  I decided to make another card for the SCS Hope You Can Cling To challenge.  I started with a piece of Sweet Blush card stock, and stamped a random pattern using Memento Angel Pink and Frilly Flowers.  Can you believe that I have had that set for months and never inked it up until this card?  Then, I stamped another random pattern in Hibiscus Burst using a different stamp from that set.  Finally, a ribbon in Raspberry Fizz, and part of the sentiment in black.

I used a different stamp from that same set to stamp a background in Hibiscus Burst ink on the same color paper, then used the In Bloom Impression Plate for texture.

I was inspired by the way Kim die cut her 'HOPE' sentiment on this card, so I did the same.  I stacked several die cut letters for height, and then put them all back into the card front, which is raised from the card base.

Supplies Used (PTI):
Stamps:  Frilly Flowers, Amuse Fight Like a Girl
Paper:  White, Sweet Blush, Hibiscus Burst
Ink:  Hibiscus Burst, Raspberry Fizz, Memento Angel Pink, Versafine Onyx Black
Dies:  Headline Alphabet, In Bloom IP

Happy Halloween and Happy Holidays

My first card today is for this week's CAS(E) this Sketch CTS #50--when I saw this card on Tracey's blog, it reminded me that I bought these fabulous 'trick or treat' dies and never used them.  Well, at least, now I have used them once.  I used some black dimensional foam squares to pop everything up.  I knew that those black squares would come in handy one day.

I'd better make sure to mail this card, since I lined an envelope to match.  The green and black paper is from an old Martha Stewart Halloween pad, and it is glittery and textured.

My next two cards are holiday cards that will be added to the stash I am making for this year's Caring Hearts Card Drive.  I am also entering both of them into the Simon Says...Christmas/Happy Holidays Wednesday Challenge.

First up is a card with a little country scene, for this week's CASology cue card 'country'.  I loved the sponging I saw on this inspiration card, and just had to break out my brand new Mama Elephant Winter Wonderland stamps.

Last up today is a card using this week's ColourQ cQc #212 colors.  I know I am supposed to be thinking Halloween, as these colors are perfect for this holiday--and that cute image.  But, I wanted to do something else.  Inspired by this card I saw this morning by Laura Bassen, I strung up some holiday lights.  I put a dab of stickles into the white spot on every light.  If I have time later in the week, I'll come back to this challenge with something for Halloween.

Make it Monday and ColourQ

Well, it is finally the weekend--yay.  I have a busy schedule of driving my girls places and watching them do things, but I am looking forward to it all the same.  I have a quick card to post for this week's Make it Monday #136:  Textured Stamping, where Ashley shows an easy technique for swiping a solid stamp on the ink pad.  I decided to use Mega Gracious Vases, since there are 4 solid stamps, and I tried to swipe in different directions to make each one unique.  I used this week's ColourQ cQc211 colors again because I loved them so much.

Supplies Used (PTI):
Stamps:  Mega Gracious Vases, Wishes Come True
Paper:  White, Limeade Ice Pattern
Ink:  Hibiscus Burst, Limeade Ice, Orange Zest, Versafine Onyx Black, Memento Grey Flannel

ColourQ #211 and Tuesday Trigger

It is a super fun color scheme this week at ColourQ cQc #211, and I made a card inspired by this card I saw over at the Mama Elephant stampede.

I paper pieced this cute little fox, using a sheet from the Limeade Ice pattern pack.  I used solid Limeade Ice paper covered with Prisma Glitter for his face and the tip of his tail.  Since the glitter covered his eyes, I put them back on using Ranger Black Enamel Accents.

I made a matching envelope just for fun, lined with the same paper at the bottom of the card.

My next card is for this week's Moxie Fab Tuesday Trigger.  I was inspired by the chevrons and the colors.  I selected just a few colors to work with on my card, because it was too busy otherwise.  I cut a Pieced Chevron die cut from Smokey Shadow card stock.  I adhered that to a base of SU Basic Grey.  Then, I randomly filled in spaces with Scarlet Jewel, Summer Sunrise and Aqua Mist.  I stamped my tag three times and cut and popped the different layers, to make my focal point.

Supplies Used (PTI):
ColourQ
Stamps:  Hello Foxy, Lil Inkers Balloon Builders
Paper:  White, Limeade Ice, Recollections
Ink:  Orange Zest, Limeade Ice, SU Strawberry Slush, Versafine Onyx Black, Memento London Fog
Dies:  Lil Inkers Balloons, WPlus9 Envelope Liner
Other:  Prisma Glitter, Ranger Black Enamel Accents

Tuesday Trigger
Stamps:  2012 Birthday Tags
Paper:  Smokey Shadow, Scarlet Jewel, Summer Sunrise, Aqua Mist, White, SU Basic Grey
Ink:  Versafine Onyx Black, Scarlet Jewel, Summer Sunrise
Dies:  Lil Inkers Pieced Chevrons, Photo Finishers
Other:  MME Enamel Dots
