The 12 Kits of Holidays: February, 2013

Happy end of February everyone.  This month, our 12 Kits group is focusing on Christmas.  Our hostess is Renee, and she sent us a whole posse of country Christmas goodies.  Try to read this with a country accent in your head, and you will know where this is going.

I was the lucky one this month, as my cards pretty much assembled themselves.  I love it when that happens.  I think the hostess has to cast a spell or something to bewitch all that paper.  Here are my cards:

I really love the patterned papers that Renee included in the kit.  I just got some flag banner dies, and decided to make a non-holiday with some of the papers that did not look too much like Christmas.  I was inspired by this card from the Lawn Fawn blog.

That's it for me today.  I won't keep you.  I am eager to see what the other members of our group did, and I'll bet that you are too.  Here is the list:

Please see Renee's blog for a complete supply list.

Because this month's Simon Says Stamp challenge is Anything Goes, I will be entering all of these cards into that challenge.

ColourQ, MIM, Color Throwdown and One Layer Wednesday

Hi there.  I have a couple of cards for a bunch of challenges today.  I think I am finally getting the hang of combining challenges.  My first card is for this week's ColourQ cQc #178, where I have used glitter for 3 of the 5 colors, and this week's Make it Monday #105:  Glitter Trim.  Dawn used her Xyron in the video, but I adhered 1 inch wide scortape to my card stock, and ran that through my Big Shot with the Double Ended Banner Die.

My next card is for this week's One Layer Wednesday challenge OLW #129:  All in a Row-Create a Card with a Row of Anything.  I am also playing along with this week's Simon Says Stamp and Show to use a stamp you love but don't use.  This challenge has me digging out old favorites that haven't seen much ink.  I pulled out Garden Variety--a set I had to have at the time, but haven't used much.  And, because I am trying to use some of my older, forgotten inkpads, I inked the watering can in Brilliance Platinum Planet--a shimmery silver color that qualifies for this week's CAS-ual Fridays CFC91:  Hi Ho Silver.  It is a bit hard to see in this picture, but the center watering can is embossed with clear over the silver.

My last card for today uses the colors for this week's Color Throwdown CTD231.

All these cards will be entered into this week's Simon Says Stamp Anything Goes challenge.

Casology, Dynamic Duos and Simon Says Stamp and Show

I have a card today for this week's CASology #33:  Circle and Dynamic Duos DD#41.  I used PTI colors of Ocean Tides and Aqua Mist and added kraft and white as my neutrals.  My dear friend, Kim, is the Guest Designer at CASology this week, and when I saw her card and she wrote about her Spellbinders dies, I knew just what direction I would head in.

I took several different sizes of spellbinder circle dies and cut out lots of different circles, and then moved them around endless times to get what I thought looked like a random pattern.  I did make small cuts in some of the open circles, so I could intertwine them, and then hid the cut parts under another circle.  I think I read somewhere that curves like lines or something like that, so I used a herringbone embossing folder on the raised panel with all the circles.

My next card is for this week's Simon Says Stamp and Show challenge, which is to use "the stamp you love (but don't use)...I chose to use the Hero Arts Starbursts stamp, which was on my wish list for about a year before I bought it.  Since then, it has been sitting in a box.....  I recently got some new colors of Zing embossing powder, and I thought they would be fun with this stamp.  I used Ranger Black Enamel Accents for the centers of the starbursts.

Supplies Used (PTI):
Happy Birthday
Stamps: Stylish Sentiments:  Birthday
Paper:  White, Aqua Mist, Ocean Tides, Kraft
Ink:  Ocean Tides
Other:  Herringbone Embossing Folder, Spellbinders Circle Dies

Celebrate
Stamps:  Hero Arts Starbursts, Fillable Frames
Paper:  True Black, Soft Stone
Ink:  Versamark, Hawaiian Shores

Papertrey February 2013 Blog Hop

The theme for this month's PTI blog hop is Marvelous Monograms.  I will admit that when I first saw this topic, I was not excited.  How much I do with an initial?  Especially when I only have one Papertrey Alphabet set?  Even with this inspirational photo?

However, I am not one to miss a party, so I started thinking about what kind of monogram would I use, if I had to use monogrammed stationery?  Well, I had just bought a big set of Inktensive pencils, so how about something colorful?

I scribbled a bit in the colors of the rainbow, and then brushed over it all with a water brush.  After it dried, I used the 'J' from Paper Smooches Graffiti and a flower from Flower Fusion.  The paper is PTI white.

I liked my colorful monogram, and decided to make some note cards for my daughters.  They are always in need of thank you notes.

I used one sheet of card stock, cut into quarters, to make a little set of flat note cards.

I used a piece of PTI white that was 5 1/2 by 4 to color and wet, and then cut it into 4 one inch strips.  That way the colored pieces in the set would be essentially the same.  And, it was quicker.

The monogram is a flower from Flower Fusion and a letter from Lawn Fawn Smitty's ABC's.

Now, I think that the monogram challenge was a pretty good one.

Enjoy the rest of the hop.  I am eager to see what everyone else did.

CAS-ual Fridays #91

I have a few cards today for this week's CAS-ual Friday's CFC91:  Hi Ho Silver challenge.  I knew I wanted to do something either wedding or anniversary for this challenge, because of the silver.  While I was thinking about what to do, I clicked on this card that caught my eye, and I was so inspired by what I saw there.  I loved her use of the Quilled Elegance set, and also her inking up of an embossed image.

I embossed a piece of PTI Smokey Shadow Card stock with the In Bloom impression plate, then used a brayer to cover the raised portions with Versamark ink. I used Ranger silver embossing powder, and the result looks kind of like old pewter.  It looks really cool in person.

Here is a close up:

This next card uses more Ranger silver embossing powder on Enchanted Evening card stock and Quilled Elegance stamps.

Last up,  Pretty Peonies stamped on silver shimmer paper, embossed in silver, and adhered to a Royal Velvet card base.  I love the look of silver on silver.

Here is a close up of the flowers:

I am so glad I played in this challenge, because it encouraged me to dig out my silver embossing powder.  Next, maybe I will play with my gold powder.

Some Challenges and Many Thanks

The good news is DH and DD #2 are coming home tonight.  The bad news--my days with almost unlimited crafting time are coming to an end.  A good trade-off, I think, as it has been rather too quiet here this week.

First up is a card for this week's Simon Says Stamp challenge to use an arrow.  I used this week's sketch from CAS(E) this Sketch CTS #16 again.  This is such a fabulous sketch--so easy to work with, and great for using patterned paper.

Next up is a card for this week's Play Date Cafe Challenge #170 and The Twinery #TT001:  Let's Polka...Dot.  The two challenges have joined forces this week, so I decided to make one card for both challenges.  I was inspired by this card that I had pinned months ago.

Last night, I was popping around blogland, and came across this card on Miao-a design blog.  I was struck by how Pamela used the 'thanks' sentiment from the Paper Smooches Chit Chat.  As I had lots of Lawn Fawn Bright Side scraps laying around, I just started stamping and cutting.  My first card is closest to Pamela's card--which she did for a 10 minute craft dash, but too me probably closer to an hour....

I played around for a bit and came up with two more designs.
