The 12 Kits of Christmas: March 2012

It's the end of March, and time for our March 12 Kits of Christmas post.  There are 12 of us who take turns sending surprise packages of holiday card making supplies to each other every month.  To read more about this group, please see my January post here.  This month, our host was Suzanne of The Card Yard, and she sent us a package chock full of holiday goodness.

I was able to make 3 cards, and have so many leftovers to continue to use throughout the year.

I can't wait to see what everyone else has done with their kits.  Here is a list of the other members of the 12 Kits of Christmas.

Papertrey March 2012 Blog Hop

Nicole provided us with this beautiful inspiration photo for this month's March PTI blog hop.

First, it made me hungry, and I had to track down a bunch of candy.  That out of the way, I pulled a few ideas from this photo:  yellow, aqua mist, sweets, polka dots, stripes, ribbon.

This is how I turned those ideas into a card.

Pretend the buttons are candy.  Pretend you can see the embossed stripes made with my SU striped embossing folder on the yellow and white polka dotted paper. (Thanks)

Supplies Used (PTI):
Stamps:  Friendship Jar, Polka Dot Basics, Mixed Messages
Paper:  Lemon Tart, Aqua Mist Patterns, White
Other:  Friendship Jar, Tiny Tags, Mega Mat Stack 1 Dies, SU Striped Embossing Folder, Aqua Mist twill ribbon, Lemon Tart & Aqua Mist buttons

Blog Hop for Janelle

Today I am playing along with a very special blog hop for a very special gal.  Laurie and Dana have organized a blog hop to let Janelle know that we are thinking about her.  So, this post is dedicated to my friend, Janelle, to let her know that I am thinking about her and sending healing thoughts her way.  Of course, it features Little Bitty Bird, the guy we both love.  And, because I seem to be putting everything in pockets this week, he is perched in a tree that is nestled in a pocket.

Happy Hello

I also have a card for her husband, Ken, who has been such an incredible support for Janelle through this journey.  As Ken has become a blogger, too, I thought he should get his own card.  I am never happy to see the posts where Ken is writing, but I am so grateful that he is willing to carry the torch to let us know how things are going.

Just Thinking of You

Both of these cards are on their way to Janelle and Ken, and should arrive shortly after this blog hop, if I got the timing right.

If you would like to participate, please click here to get to Laurie's blog, Soapbox Creations, to link up your card for Janelle.  Or click here to leave some love on Janelle's blog.

Stay strong, Janelle.  We are all rooting for you.

Thanks

I just fell in love with this week's color palette at ColourQ.  I interpreted this week's CQC#129 colors as PTI Aqua Mist ink, VersaColor Turquoise ink, Amuse Heather Ink, and PTI Royal Velvet card stock.  I am just noticing that my rows are a bit crooked.  Oh, well.  When I have time, I'll make this card again.

Please come back tomorrow for a very special blog hop.  Also, don't forget to play along with this month's Paper Dolls challenge, Spring Bling, for a chance to win some really fun supplies provided by Renee.

Supplies Used (PTI):
Stamps:  Background Basics Circles
Paper:  White, Royal Velvet

Make it Monday: Happy Birthday

This week's Make it Monday #58 video is about Graduated Backgrounds.  I was very interested to see how Nicole Heady has been making those beautiful backgrounds, and super excited to see how easy it truly is.  Click here to watch the video and learn how.

I used the first technique she showed, which was using Copic markers.  I used RV10, RV13, RV14, YR12 and YR16.  (OK, I just figured out why people just take pictures of the ends of their Copics.)

Supplies Used (PTI):
Stamps:  Wonderful Words Additions
Paper:  White, Hibiscus Burst
Other:  Wonderful Words Die, Copic Markers

Masculine Birthday

I have a quick card that I made with one of my latest fave dies--Memory Box Piestra Tile.  I was playing around with the die, and discovered that Framed Out fits perfectly with this die.

First I drew a line along the front panel to mark where I wanted the bottom edge of the die to cut.  I ran the die through two times, just cutting the sections I wanted cut, and leaving the middle empty for the stamped image.  So, each time, the die was partially on the paper, and partially hanging off the edge.  Make sense?

Supplies Used (PTI):
Stamps:  Framed Out
Paper:  Soft Stone, Enchanted Evening, Simply Chartreuse
Other:  Memory Box Piestra Tile Die

All of the excitement last week about Papertrey's new Pocket set inspired me to pull out my WPlus9 A Pocketful: Valentine set and see what I could create.  I am entering this card at CAS-ual Friday's CFC#44 1-2-3 challenge.

I wanted to make a second pocket card for CAS-Fridays card using the Aqua Mist Gingham paper.  I sure am loving these new patterned paper packs.  I saw the new sketch at Retro Sketches RS#3, and decided to use it for my Aqua Mist card.

Happy Anniversary

I have a card for this week's ColourQ cQc #128 challenge.  I interpreted these colors as Ripe Avocado, Simply Chartreuse, New Leaf and Smokey Shadow.  I was inspired by two of my most favorite recent cards here and here to come up with this card today.  I have to say that it is very hard not to use Beautiful Butterflies on every card.  The butterflies are so versatile, and I think the accompanying sentiments are some of my favorites.  (At least I put away Rosie Posie, for a bit).

Supplies Used (PTI):
Stamps:  Beautiful Butterflies,  WM Musical Backgrounds
Paper:  Ripe Avocado, Simply Chartreuse, New Leaf, White Smokey Shadow
Other:  Beautiful Butterflies, Memory Box Piestra Tile dies, ribbon

Waltzingmouse March Blog Party

It's the 17th, and that means that I get to go to the Waltzingmouse Blog Party.  Yay!  The theme this month is ST. PATRICK'S DAY/IRISH/GREEN.  I have ordered a bunch of new WM stamps, but they are not here yet.  That means that you need to bear with me for just one more month while I make do with what I own, beg, borrow and steal (OK, I have not stolen anything, yet).  For this challenge, I used a lot of green, and had to get creative with what I had on hand, which is Eat Cake, Cameo to Go, and Off Beat Backgrounds.  I used something from each of those sets to come up with my card.

I am also entering this card into the St. Luke's Charity Card Challenge Spring into Spring

Make it Monday: Colored Kissing

This is my second post for today.  If you are looking for my 4-of-a-Kind Post, click here.

For this week's Make it Monday MIM#57:  Colored Kissing, Heather Nichols shows us how to "kiss with color" on our stamps.  This is such a cool technique, and really very easy.  I have always wanted to try to put polka dots on the Enjoy the Ride car, and I was finally able to do it this week.  I used one of the stamps from Background Basics Retro--after looking at this card, I think it looks like it might be sponsored by Target--oh well, I like Target.

I used a Card Positioning Systems layout, CPS 256 for my layout.

Supplies Used (PTI):
Stamps:  Enjoy the Ride, BB:  Retro, Tag-it's, Fillable Frames
Paper:  Pure Poppy, Smokey Shadow, Aqua Mist Patterns, White
Other:  Enjoy the Ride, Fillable Frame, Eyelet dies, Nestie circle, Embossing folder
